« Back to Glossary IndexDomain Address
A unique text identifier computer (host) connected to the Internet. Consists of words, written in Latin letters and separated by dots. Spaces and other punctuation marks in domain names don’t exist. Each domain name corresponds to a particular IP-address or multiple IP-addresses. For example, the domain name that corresponds www.MOXTEK.com is IP-address 74.220.201.121. Domain names are an integral part of the URL, pointing to a specific web-page. Domain names are converted to the IP-address using DNS service. The Domain Name System is designed for the convenience of users, so it is easier to remember domain address (for example, www.harvard.edu, www.fbi.gov, www.louvre.fr), rather than trying to remember the numerical value of IP-addresses. Register a domain address means making it and its corresponding IP-addresses in the database DNS-server. See “Domain Name Registration”
